The museum and especially Scienceworks (I know it’s out of the way, but it’s jolly fantastic)! They’re both free for students, just bring your student card. There’s so much stuff to see in there, you’d be surprised, and it will get the couples talking and keep the “awkward factor” to a minimum (except maybe in the room with all the naked people on the walls).

The aquarium is another good one, once again, a lot of stuff to see, but you have to pay.

Nothing beats the old fashioned way of dinner and movie :)
Dockland has some great cafe and restaurants.

a movie is always cool for a double date! but maybe go for a film outdoors this summer!

you could give the rooftop cinema a go.. located sky high on top of a city building on swanton st. http://www.rooftopcinema.com.au/

or maybe try out the OpenAir cinema if you havent already. also in the city at Birrarung Marr on the Yarra River. It has views of the yarra and the city skyline. http://www.stgeorgeopenair.com.au/

and theres also the moonlight cinema located at the Royal Botanic Garden. http://www.moonlight.com.au/about.php

Go bowling!!! It’s so much fun, and because everyone is usually crap at it, it makes for such a laid back atmosphere! Or could head to the Queen Vic (Wednesday) or St Kilda (Thursday) night markets, some good live music and food down there! AND it’s nice and cheap which is a bonus! Hehe
